Dinosaur Lake by Kathryn Meyer Griffith...first in a four book series.
Ex-cop Henry Shore has been Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park for eight years and he likes his park and his life the way it's been. Safe. Tranquil. Predictable. But he's about to be tested in so many ways. First the earthquakes begin…people begin to go missing…then there's some mysterious water creature that's taken up residence in the caves below Crater Lake and it's not only growing in size, it's aggressive and cunning…and very hungry.
And it's decided it likes human beings. To eat.
And it can come up onto land.
So Henry, with the help of his wife, Ann; a young paleontologist named Justin; and a band of brave men, must not only protect his park and his people from the monster but somehow find where it lives and destroy it…before it can kill again. ***  Four books in the series and more coming! Dinosaur Lake, Dinosaur Lake: Dinosaurs Arising, Dinosaur Lake: Infestation and Dinosaur Lake IV: Dinosaur Wars.

I am a huge Sci-Fi fan and this book was riveting. I couldn’t put it down. I wish they would make it into a movie, it’s just like like of “monster” movies I love!! Great book.

Gotta admit ... zombies and zombie apocalypse make me roll my eyes. This was exactly what I needed: characters I cared about, beautiful setting, creature feature!! I could get into the story, mostly read more pages than I intended, think about the story after I’d finished for the evening. Just old fashioned fun! Thank you, Kathryn Meyer Griffith!!

So I loved the book, it did a great job at certain aspects and was definitely worth the read. Just warning however there may be spoilers below, though I’ll try to contain them. So one thing that irked me is that whilst the author did a great job at making the Dino feel threatening, every time there was an opportunity for a kill to take place there was barely and detail on how the death took place (except for around the later chapters, 2 near the end were satisfying). But most of the time it just referred to someone being consumed or that the dinosaur made a kill. It just never left that much of an impact. Heck. The lasting impact of the families kids on the island was stronger than that of the emotions presented when the Dino went after the rangers (and gang, and killed multiple) I also felt that for as much build up as the story had for the conclusion, it came up flat, and felt rushed. I want to say that it comes from lack of detail? I think that’s just my overall summary. Descriptions and flavorful words and context can bring so much life into a book However still, I give it 4/5. I can’t lie and say I didn’t enjoy it, but I have to knock a star because of just how unsatisfying the deaths were. Hopefully it gets better as I continue the series, and I’m looking forward to reading the next one on my commute

I throughly loved reading this book, it’s full of adventure as the each character deals with a frightening dinosaur in their own story. I’m looking forward to the second book.
